Drisha Institute for Jewish Eduation

Drisha Institute for Jewish Education is a cutting edge center for advanced study of Jewish classical texts by women in an open and thoughtful environment. We provide the opportunity to encounter Jewish texts in a serious, intellectually rigorous and inclusive manner through specialized courses, lectures, and an emphasis on havruta [partner] study. Drisha has grown significantly in scope and impact since its founding in 1979 and its graduates serve as educators, scholars and leaders in the Jewish community and the world at large.  Drisha's continuing education programs are a key community resource and its Beit Midrash is open to all.

Interfaith Outreach Projects of the Robert I. Lappin Charitable Foundation

The Robert I. Lappin Charitable Foundation (along with several partners) sponsors various interfaith outreach programs.  These include "Mothers Circle", a free program for mothers of backgrounds other than Judaism who are raising Jewish children; a free 25-week course called "Introduction to Judaism," designed for individuals in interfaith relationships wishing to explore Judaism as well as those considering conversion to Judaism; a Community Gift Basket for newly converted Jews, consisting of religious items of their choice, up to $150 in value; among others.

The Lappin Foundation also provides grant money to agencies to be used for interfaith outreach programs.

Jewish Educational Background: Trends and Variations Among Today's Jewish Adults

Report 1 from the UJC Report Series on the National Jewish Population Survey 2000-01. This report examines the extent to which today's Jewish adults engaged in both formal and informal Jewish education in their youth. It also looks at trends and variations in educational participation, seeking to understand how patterns of use have changed over time, and how educational choices vary by such factors as age, gender, region, parents' Jewishness, and religious denomination.

Limmud International

Website for Limmud International, where you can find links to Limmud groups in cities around the world.

Limmud is the Hebrew word for learning. It is an approach to cross-communal Jewish education that started in the UK in 1980 and is now being enjoyed by communities throughout the world. In the UK the original and largest event has become a five-day residential Conference, a festival of learning held on a university campus and attended by close to 2,500 people - which the Jewish Chronicle called the "jewel in the crown of Anglo-Jewry". This event attracts some 350 presenters annually, between them presenting over 900 sessions on every conceivable topic of Jewish interest.

MOFET JTEC (Jewish Teacher Education Community) is a MOFET Institute initiative developed with the aim of developing a community of Jewish education teacher educators around the world. Moreshet

Moreshet: the Hebrew literacy project is a joint venture between the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland and the Siegal College of Judaic Studies. The mission of Moreshet is to promote Hebrew literacy in the community. The Moreshet program focuses on encouraging the study and use of Hebrew and has different components including Moreshet Teacher Development, a Hebrew crash course for adults, and a monthly Hebrew Storytime for children.

National Jewish Population Survey 2000

This portrait of American Jews emerges from the National Jewish Population Survey (NJPS) 2000-01, a representative survey of the Jewish population in the United States sponsored by United Jewish Communities and the Jewish federation system. This report presents findings on several demographic topics; Jewish connections and engagement; intermarriage; and three special topics, the elderly, immigrants and those living below the poverty line. In coming months, UJC will issue a series of specialized reports on these and other topics, such as synagogue affiliation and denominations, Jewish practice, philanthropy and volunteerism, Jewish college students, marriage and families, and regional differences among Jews.
