« BackMaking Jewish Education Work: Professional Development for Educators
- Research Reports and Studies - Publications and Dissemination Project
We all know that professional development is important. In terms of Jewish educators, however:
- How important is the context within which professional development opportunities are offered?
- What roles should mentoring, in-person retreats, technology and assessment play in professional development?
- How does professional development lead to change and growth for educators and learners?
JESNA's vision that high quality Jewish education be accessible to all Jews at every stage of life in part depends on the provision of high caliber professional development for educators during all stages of their careers. Recognizing the important role that these opportunities play in the Jewish educational landscape, we are delighted to share with you the fourth publication in JESNA's series, Making Jewish Education Work, which focuses on professional development for educators.
Over the past decade, numerous professional development initiatives have been conducted for educators by individual schools, under community auspices and/or on the national level. By offering a synthesis of lessons learned from evaluations conducted by JESNA's Berman Center of 8 such initiatives, and by contextualizing and extending these evaluations with insights from the general field of professional development, the report is both a product of, and an advocate for, excellent and contextualized professional development opportunities for educators.
